ERA funding helped Lethbridge Biogas develop a full-scale biogas cogeneration project fueled by organics comprised of agricultural manures and food processing wastes in the County of Lethbridge Rave Industrial Park.
The facility uses an anaerobic digestion process to produce renewable energy.
The anaerobic digestion process captures and uses methane, a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of more than 25 times that of carbon dioxide.
The remaining by-product of the digestion process is used as a high quality fertilizer for land application.
This facility will be the first to incorporate patented thermal hydrolysis technology developed in Alberta.
